Why You Shouldn’t Overlook Adult Cats During Kitten Season

Today, I saw three big, floofy, adult cats — three of them — hanging out in the “kitten” room in one of our foster volunteers’ houses. Soon, this room will be needed for the pouncing, jumping, swatting whirlwinds that are kittens — spring’s kitten season is just starting, after all — but right now, all is calm and serene in the kitten room. These adult cats are unflappable, friendly, and just waiting for the right person to call.

The large gray and white one is the friendliest. Another one is cream-colored and looks like a pom-pom; the extra-large black one with beautiful green eyes is content to watch from a distance. I enjoy visiting the kitten room — and the upside with adult cats is I don’t have to watch where I step. It’s a totally different story with kittens — they usually decide to dart across in front of me.
